To everyone, I dont think its an unimportant topic. I lived in a xenopohobic country for some time and I couldnt see how it did any good for anyone.

However there are real and serious issues in that countries and companies are not constructed under the Australian fair play laws. So whereas I perceive that many of our companies that invest in resources throughout the world the motive is always a profit.

There must be some sovereign process that ensures fair play. The FIRB is that body and for my mind its a critical task. You cannot just go and form a company in China and start trading there are sovereign rules there as well. If you dont agree with their human rights laws you have to guard against undue influence over you country.

I wouldn't like to be the USA and tell China to take a hike today given the trade imbalance.

We do live in a global world and it is possible for a multi-national to have such power to play unfairly in any country. For that reason business needs oversight. I have only recently read up about National foods and Milk producers in Tassie and I am concerned by what I read that this is not maybe a fair fight as the company controlled from offshore doesnt have to sit around the table here and could break the farmers.

We need food security much as we need Bio security and we need political security as much as Human rights etc etc. Its all about balance as with most things in life.

I dont want to wake up one day and find that someone whose laws, values and human rights has significant influence over us and we are vulnerable because we did not guard of independence. Thats not Australia for the Aussies nor is it Xenophobia and I think Nursery makes some valid points.
