Pancontinental Oil & Gas, junior partner in Block L10A, announced the spud of the Sunbird-1 wildcat offshore Kenya. Sunbird-1 is the first well drilled off East Africa that is designed to test a Miocene Pinnacle Reef play. The well is being drilled by the Deepsea Metro I (UDW drillship) at a water depth of 2,365 feet. Target depth of the well is 9,842 feet with an option to drill to 12,139 feet. BG Group, the operator, is drilling the well as a "play opener" and plans to plug and abandon the well regardless of the results. The well is being drilled as a tight hole so no information will be released until the results can be assessed. Block L10A joint venture partners include BG Group (50%), PTTEP (31.25%) and Pancontinental (18.75%).
