Great post.
I haven't adopted a dog from a shelter yet, but think I will in the future.
I drove interstate to pick up my current dog almost 5 years ago now. She's my best mate, and a massive part of our family. She's helped me through so much in the last few years (death of a loved one, and then the birth of my first and only child.) I don't know if she realizes exactly how much she means to me and my missus, but she means absolutely everything.
Having a cancerous lump removed from her chest a couple of years ago was a no brainer.
I absolutely dread the day I have to say goodbye to her, and hope it never comes.
May sound silly to some, but seeing my young daughter and my dog as best of friends makes me so happy. And seeing her run freely on the beach most Saturday mornings is another thing that brings a big smile to my face.
