Only motivation was to enquire if you believed in it.
There are many who share the same belief.
I think it is ridiculous.
To assume it is correct you have to believe;
1. That there is intelligent life in another part of the universe. Not too hard to believe at face value, but life on Earth could well be unique if you study in depth the chances of non-living compounds being somehow organised into a self-replicating organism in violation of the Thermodynamics Laws amongst others. Depending on who you follow the odds range from just plain impossible to odds that are greater than 1 to more than the estimated number of atoms in the Universe.
2. Getting over that hump, it's a fact that we are here so it's happened at least once anyway. You then have to beleive that this civilisation is sufficiently advanced that they have mastered interstellar travel. Unless you think they are nearby, but with modern technology no evidence has been found. It is debatable if this is ever possible for any civilisation no matter how advanced, if the speed of light is indeed the maximum speed in the universe as the distances are mind numbing.
3. Getting over that hump, we then have to believe that a craft was indeed built that could overcome these challenges, and that it managed to come across the Earth in the first place, making the alternative task of finding the proverbial needle in a haystack seem so easy it's a joke.
4. Pressing on, we then have to believe that this craft, despite travelling across interstellar space without mishap, upon entering the Earth's atmosphere, got into trouble and crash landed (or was forced down whatever you want to believe) somewhere near Jerkwater, USA.
5. And to top it all off, we have to accept that the captors have managed to keep ALL scientifically verifiable evidence secret ever since i.e. that NO-ONE in all the years of the alleged secret cover-up, EVER, EVER snuck out a photograph, video, or material piece of evidence that could confirm the existence of something not of nature but of extra-terrestrial origin living or not.
Sorry mate, it's too hard, and unfortunately there's just too much against the story for it to be real.
It sure gets a lot of people's imaginations fired up though.
