For the purpose of the demo, I assume they just went with roast beef and veggies. It probably had a bunch of random examples based on the ingredients available on the shelf.
He did try to trick the system by grabbing two carrots at once, and it was able to tell the difference. I think when you factor in machine learning and artificial intelligence, it would only get more accurate over time, while respecting people's privacy (and being GDPR-compliant is a big deal in Europe!).
