SC63 covers an offshore area of 10,560 square kilometer and is contiguous with southern portions of SC54 and SC58. The exploration wells drilled to date have hugged the coastline and sit in relatively shallow water depths of up to 150 feet. Several wells drilled in SC63 did encounter hydrocarbons and perhaps the most significant result was the Abo Abo gas discovery made by Phillips Petroleum in 1980. Abo Abo had promising sandstone development with numerous hydrocabron indications and is reported to have flowed up to 50 million cubic feet of gas per day.
The question has to be asked why are they not going after discoveries like this ?
