Foundations of Card Technology for Transactions Sessions
Tuesday, May 2nd – 9am until 4:30pm
Card Technology is having a major impact on payments transactions. This workshop, produced by the Smart Card Alliance, will cover the technology of both contact and contactless smart cards and how they are applied in secure payments. The morning panel presentations will address the state of the payments marketplace and changes in infrastructure taking place through the payments industry, at the card level, at the point of sale, and including the processing and service provider networks. The afternoon panels will discuss the issues facing the stakeholders in the payments delivery and acceptance areas including the issuers, merchants, and consumers, plus address issues related to the convergence of smart payments technology and a number of familiar transaction technologies: cell phones, transit payments, online payments, and more. You’ll come away from this session with a deeper understanding of the technologies, infrastructures, and consumer needs that are driving the current revolution in transaction technologies.
Attendees Will Learn:
• About technology and business factors that are driving changes in payments industry
• About payments security and consumer convenience that are built into the card
• About the technology needs and obstacles for each of the major industry stakeholders: financial institutions, merchants, and consumers
• About payments networks and how smart, secure payments will drive a change of technology at the point of sale
• About transaction convergence: transit card, cell phone and online payment technologies that may someday make plastic credit cards obsolete
