    I don't believe the rules have changed eg once you sign off on your financials your the one responsible .eg refer a couple of high profile cases.
    My accountant does both,he is a partner semi retired but younger accountant that does my work seems on top of the rules regarding smsf's and business accountancy.
    I guess it may raise the question to make sure the accountant you select is up to date on smsf requirements.

    ps i could be wrong but i think it works both ways Enn eg it is a legal responsibility of your accountant to report you to ATO if he/she becomes aware of something "not quite right",that can include something you say.
