The shorting of the stock has nothing to do with the company.This would be the person who owned the stock and the broker who made the trades.The way in which this has happened you would have to be sure the information you had was solid or you would not risk shorting so many shares.They would have had to have known for sure about the situation.I would say someone knew about the move to outsource the billings company and knew of the problems with automatic transfer.
