Totally agree, that the weight of socio/political context should not influence fairness in a court of law.

I was not responding to the issue of innocence or guilt, and am not prepared to. I have a view, but actually my view is as irrelevent to the application of law in Indonesia as is anyone else's here!

Guess what I was responding to was people's questioning of a sovereign right.

Still, while the general process of law is about fairness and compliance with the due application of law, we also have to recognise that outside of international conventions e.g. human rights etc, few laws are universal or internationally governed and each country does have the right to develop law and policy and these in themselves are governed in many cases by socio/political/cultural contexts.

There are so many worlds out there aren't there! :) Regards, Donna
