Hate to sound like a garden fairy democrat, but on the issue of respecting a country's sovereignty....
There is a natural and greater justice than one imposed by parliaments and judiciary.
When that greater justice is in alignment with the more sovereign one, we would regard laws as just and fair.
Abuses and unfairness in the name of sovereignty should be respected? Is that what people are saying? "It's their way of life, it's their law, and we must respect that"
To a point. Do we extrapolate that to Zimbabwe, North Korea, countries which keep bears in bird-sized cages to milk their bile, and cannabalistic tribes in the jungles?
The Indonesian judicial system is corrupt, it can be bought.
Without impugning the innocence or guilt of Schapelle Corby, what credibility should we assign to that system which frees mass murder-terrorists like Abu Bakar Bashir,
while jailing for 20 years a convicted trafficker in marijuana?
