The "Dunedin Study" of 1000 children born in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1972 has shown a very strong correlation between a variation on a gene known as COMT together with intake of cannabis, and schizophrenia. In fact it is predictable according to the 40+ year study.
Yet it seems Canada will legalise recreational cannabis. Will this lead to a rapid rise is mental health issues ? Have the Canadian authorities taken this study into consideration ? Should everyone who wishes to use cannabis recreationally be made to have a gene test ?
It is nice for us shareholders to make money through these companies but surely not at the expense of mental health.
