Btw my kids attend a government school and I can assure you that the issues are the same at both public and private schools.
I will agree with you about the sense of entitlement that can be cultivated amongst some private school students and that's partly why I choose to send them to a state school. However I think you are being disingenuous to assume the issue isn't the same in state schools. The tall poppy syndrome ensures that private schools will feature in the news whereas public schools are less newsworthy.
