I taught in a high school for a time. I questioned what the formal qualifications of the school chaplains were and could never get an answer. As a teacher I was not qualified to give one on one counselling to a student yet this is what chaplains do. Perhaps someone on this forum could answer this
I find that quite strange for want of a better description.
In my experience kids went to teachers for counselling that they trusted, irrespective of the subjects that they taught.
It would seem to me that it would be PC gone mad if teachers were expected to tell students not to approach them for help on the grounds of not being trained to provide counselling.
Next, we will be told not to provide counselling to our kids and grand-kids unless we have formal training.
