I remember when my son was in year 11 and 12 most of the English was aimed at creative writing. Ok if you want to be a journo or a writer but not so good in the real world.
Anyway he got out of highschool and went to uni, did a double degree and is doing well. I might add that he dislikes misspelling and bad grammer. So at least in his school English, maths and Science was well taught. I met most of his teachers and they were good people. I might add he did a double engineering degree.
I think the results from school depend a lot on the Parents and the Teachers ability and dedication. The parents have to be involved and must be firm with the after school study.
