    Unfortunately half that reading list was on the curriculum at their primary school, and we have already been through much angst with my deep and sensitive older daughter:
    Primary school books:
    Once (Nazis killing children)
    Then (Nazis killing children)
    Hiding Edith (hiding children from the Nazis)
    War Horse (poor horse in the first world war)
    oh, and showing the movie 'Gallipolli' to them - nothing like watching young men sent over the top to be slaughtered en masse to build 'resilience' in the kids.

    Now that my eldest is nearly 14 I hope she is more able to deal with the issues. But it is unrelenting, year after year...
    I don't think she wants a 'militant mother' - "why can't you just be accepting, like the other mums...?".. but I will have to say something.
