I worked at Schoolies as a Surfers Paradise Police Sgt 1990-1995. It was a lot worse then. No activities, no volunteers for the schoolies just police to lock people up and ambulance staff to patch them up.

We would arrest 60 to 110 persons a night mainly toolies, trying to crack on to the young females and fight the young males. THE FIRST WEEK was the biggest problem with Qld. 17yr olds not being able to get into clubs legally. The second week a bit better with the southerners coming up who were mostly 18 and able to club. It is disgusting but it is an organised disgusting event now where it was not previously.

I have a daughter who survived last year with no problems after a bit of a chat from me some luck and staying in groups. Next year my other daughter is going so I will try the same again. There is no stopping it, they all believe it is a rite of passage after ending school now. GOOD LUCK ALL PARENTS, copius alcohol supplied by many parents also adds fuel to the fire.
