Interesting comments re.schoolwatch. Unions have tried to own education for a long time now. They have brainwashed the teachers into thinking that collective agreements and regulation are somehow related to educational acievements.
Being rid of the union is the best thing that could happen to education in the lucky country.
I don't know what dragon they will unleash though ... schools competing with schools. The teachers should wake up and take advantage of this. Chalkies could become small businesses in their own right ... Mr Smith pty ltd. and then proceed to charge the community a fee for service raher than collecting an embarrassingly small salary. Doctors do this and take advantage of their rare skills.
Currently there is a chronic shortage of teachers. Teachers driving SAAB convertables with chalets in the snowfields ... careful Mr. Rudd.
