Capt., I don't pretend to have all the answers but I know what I have observed before and after I left school.
My old man was a member of the local branch of the ALP in the 60's and even then some of the teachers from my school were starting to exert an undue influence on the local members through branch stacking etc. Mind you, at the time I had more important things on my mind at the time.
But since then, after observing my own kids go through the results of the undue influence the teachers union has had on the curriculum, I had o come to the conclusion that my kids weren't being taught to spell and add up anymore.
They were learning more about some sort of ideology which fitted more with some university campus left wing idea of a perfect world. Dumb me thought I was sending my kids to learn how to spell and add up!

Don't get me wrong, I learnt a lot from my teachers, but it wasn't about personal politics, it was about history, geography, social studies, respect for others and concern etc and especially how to think not believe every new 'idea' that comes along. Most teachers I encountered were in the job because they loved to teach what was true. I'm not convinced that is the case anymore. Some teachers should get a job in the 'real' world methinks
