Lets break it down a little to smaller parts:
I have taken our your part about agreeing to be popular but what remains is:
"To suggest that most of the world's scientists are publishing articles for financial gain is so absurd to anyone with an investigative mind as to be insulting."
So they do it for the love of it?
I am sure that most do the jobs they do for the investigative passion they have but when funding dictates the direction they must go in, they must follow that direction to get the funding.
Its not meant to be insulting, its just how the world works.
You pay for what you get and when you pay for warming papers you get them.
