The consensus at the Roman church had Galileo thrown in gaol (and threatened with torture) for not believing that the earth was flat.
Ummm...For not believing that the earth was flat? Lol - no, that wasn't it at all. (Always a good idea to check facts first if you aren't very knowledgeable about science or history!)
BTW - 'throwing people in gaol' does sound a bit like what this prominent Senator in the good old USA wants to do, doesn't it.
