With Australia's exporters being punished by China, Australian governments of all persausions will not want to see any further restrictions put in place because it hurts Treasury coffers.

I can hear Keith Pitt now: China has banned our wine, barley, seafood, meat, cotton and timber. Jobs have been lost and businesses destroyed.

Approving gas exploration will create jobs. It will also reduce costs for manufacturing so that employers can be internationally competitive and afford to take on more staff. And gas exports provide valuable income for Australia.
