The British Royal family didn't fight the Germans in WW2, but they stayed in London as a symbol that they would endure the same conditions as the people. As opposed to our PM who when thousands of Australians faced having their homes burnt down decided that life is better in Hawaii. Perhaps his own version of "We shall fight them on the beaches."
