At no point did I say (nor expect) the government to step in. I was merely trying to explain why some people were forced to live in sub standard accommodation and why some were underinsured (or not insured at all). Having been in a disaster and living through the worst of it, I feel like I can understand.
I didn't expect the government to do anything any of it but I can tell you from experience, the LAST thing most people in a disaster want to do, is leave the community they just went through the disaster with. And tell me this... given I had no car for weeks, how was I meant to drive to available accommodation in another area? The roads were closed, no power for weeks, no water etc...
