bacci, it is illgal to not vote. Getting your name ticked off at the booth only prevents them having prima facie evidence you didn't.. And makes the turnout look good.
Scrap compulsory voting and see the turnout collapse. That'll make them come up with policies that people want to vote for, rather than picking the lesser of two evils.
