I have argued a few times that recycled copper will act as a moderator on any Cu price rises. The linked article from this sites homepage gives credence to this suggestion.
The much touted world domination of EVs is also argued to put great upwards pressure on Cu as they use considerable more than ICEs. I suggest it will only add greatly to the recycled supply. What is the life of a car...5? 10? years. Then all the copper in that vehicle will be reused...that is the nature of copper. It is the worlds most recycled metal.
Even if a higher purity is required for electric motor windings (debatable) then this recycled EV supply would still put downward pressure on the price as it will create a cheap supply for other applications.
I have often wondered if there will be a time when all our current need for copper can be supplied from over a 100 years of recycled stock??
