because they get their hands on a massive phosphate resource at Sandpiper, and can then either take it off the shelf (so to speak), so that too much production does not ruin phosphate price, or simply turn to that project if the NT phosphate mining runs into too many hurdles - particularly cost-wise...
i think that once diamond prices pick up again, they would easily be able to sell off or float off the diamond interests into another company - but that'd be about 2 years from now...
