Segmenting networks and coupling these with a new improved form of network connection technology is seminal for systems design and operation of networks. I went looking at explanations of what was behind the term "SD-WANs."

Netlinkz' product story has a theme around becoming a vital platform for operating "SD-WANs".

IMO this theme coupled with the indirect channel approach will bring serious market traction .

    At last!

    So what is a SD-WAN?

Google explains "WANs as allowing companies to extend their computer networks over large distances, to connect remote branch offices to data centers and each other, and deliver the applications and services required to perform business functions."

"When companies extend networks over greater distances and sometimes across multiple carriers' networks, they face operational challenges including network congestion, jitter, packet loss, security risks and even service outages."

"Bandwidth requirements are also increasing, especially for applications featuring high-definition video and streaming".

"It can be expensive and difficult to expand WAN capability, with corresponding difficulties related to network management and troubleshooting."

Business, education and government entities use wide area networks ( WAN ) to relay data among staff, students, clients, buyers, and suppliers from various geographical locations. In essence, this mode of telecommunication allows a business to effectively carry out its daily function regardless of location. The Internet itself may be considered a WAN.

SD WAN. Transforms WAN networking by leveraging the economics of the Internet, the architecture of the cloud and the virtualisation of network devices.

A key application of an SD-WAN allows companies to build higher performance WANs using lower cost leased lines, enabling businesses to partially or wholly replace more expensive private WAN connection technologies .

SD-WAN products are designed to address network problems and inefficiencies. By enhancing or even replacing traditional routers with virtualization appliances that can control application-level policies and offer a network overlay, less expensive consumer-grade Internet links can act more like a dedicated circuit. This can simplify the setup process , complexity of network operation and significantly reduce both costs and security risk . SD-WAN products can be physical appliances or virtual appliances, and are placed in small remote and branch offices, larger offices, corporate data centers, and increasingly on cloud platforms.

A centralized controller is used to set policies and prioritize traffic. The SD-WAN takes into account these policies and the availability of network bandwidth to route traffic. This helps ensure that application performance meets service level agreements.

American marketing research firm Gartner predicted in 2015
"by the end of 2019 , 30% of enterprises will deploy SD-WAN technology in their branches".

SD-WAN s are a vital part of the cloud tsunami and no wonder somebody has been buying up large amounts of Netlinkz shares at four cents ! The company's product suite is right on the mark!
I'm keen to see demonstrations getting out into the market. Once the impact of this technology is experienced sales should flow and the more case experiences the better for triggering wider adoption in the market.
