Just because something works doesn't mean it's in good condition. Ever heard the expression "nothing goes faster than a hire car"? This applies 10 fold to equipment rentals.
I used to have a Mitsubishi Lancer. It had over 400000k on it had been threw a hail storm. I certainly never serviced it. And for the last 6 months I had it it got driven with a clutch pedal that worked thanks to a piece of rope as a tensioner in lui of a fire fall. It worked. It was not in good condition.
It's hard enough getting companies with money to spend money on upkeep and maintenance of equipment that they have parked in front of there own office building. Let alone half way round the world.
