I heard from a reputable source today that damage just to the wheat crop in northern NSW from the August frost will be a million tonnes. The main damage was done a month ago from a much bigger than normal frost that got the stems of the heads when in the boots of the plants. Farmers are only just realising the damage now.
It certainly was a big frost on the Liverpool Plains, however as we expect big frosts here our crops were all later. All that happened to my wheat was the tips of the leaves got burnt off. It was minus 5 here.
