SEBUKU COAL RESOURCE INCREASE
Straits Asia Resources Limited (Straits Asia, SGX:SAR) is pleased to
announce a substantial increase in resources at the Sebuku coal mine in
South Kalimantan, Indonesia. This resource is presented in Table 1 below and
has been classified under the JORC Code.
Resources - Mt
Project Area Measured Indicated Inferred Total
Tanah Putih 41 16 - 57
Karbon Mahakam - - 6 6
Metalindo - - 28 28
Sub Total 41 16 34 91
BCS CCoW Ext 1 - 36 260 296
Total 41 52 294 387
Table 1: BCS Coal Resource Summary, as at 31 December 2007.
Total resources have increased by 276% from 103 Mt at 31 December 2006.
This increase in resources is due principally to the Northern lease (Karbon
Mahakam and Metalindo) areas which were acquired in December 2007, and
substantial resources defined in the shallow water between the Sebuku and
Laut islands. These areas are highlighted in the diagram on the next page.
Exploration drilling to further define and understand the extension of the
Sebuku resource base will continue throughout 2008.
Sebuku is currently expanding production capacity to 6 Mtpa by 2009, It is
likely that the large resource base at Sebuku could support a significantly
higher production rate. Scoping studies will be undertaken in the next 12
months to determine future possible production scenarios.
Macquarie Securities (Singapore) Pte Limited is the Sole Global Coordinator, Bookrunner and
Underwriter for, and Macquarie Securities (Asia) Pte Limited is the Issue Manager for, the Initial
