"A boat carrying 62 asylum seekers has been intercepted by the navy only 24 hours after another vessel was detected in Australian waters without permission.
The boat was detected by a RAAF maritime patrol aircraft under the control of Border Protection Command on Thursday evening northwest of Christmas Island.
Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor said the passengers will be transferred to the island "pending removal to another country".
On Wednesday night about 52 asylum seekers and two crew were also picked up in the region."
