I'm headed back to Casper, Wyoming in mid-September to see Ablation Technologies' new 5tph unit in action.
I'm not sure if the unit will be ablating October ore, running other bulk samples or still be in test mode at that time. Alex Molynuex will be with me again and he's bringing a one or more people from Asia to check it out as well.
The last time I visited Casper was in March. Alex and I saw the 0.5tph unit do its stuff. We are quite convinced it worked at pilot scale. The 5tph unit has been characterized as, "semi-commercial scale." For Alex and I, we consider it to be proof of concept.
On that trip, Alex and I also toured the Colorado mine site and met with community members that have a positive view of the project. Obviously, we didn't meet with opponents, but Mike Haynes has a small team of that interacts with the known opponents on a regular basis, trying to educate/convince them that borehole uranium mining with Ablation is safe, has a relatively small surface footprint at any given time, is easily reclaimed and would provide stable, high paying jobs.
We were impressed that Black Range is not trying to sneak the project into production, but is proactively engaging communities with town hall meetings and the like. This has been ongoing for more than a year.
While permitting new uranium mines in Colorado is thought to be difficult, I doubt it's more difficult than the myriad challenges facing uranium mining in Mali, Niger and Namibia, among other places.
Alex and I feel that the combination of borehole mining, (used in Canada and Australia, but not much if at all in the U.S. yet) and Ablation will, over time, win over local communities, regulators and politicians.
Alex is thinking really BIG and long-term in uranium. He has substantial capital behind him to comfortably fund Black Range AND keep on buying stakes in uranium assets and companies. I'm very impressed with what Alex is doing and I know for a fact that he's impressed several senior executives of other uranium companies.
Companies with offices in Casper include, Cameco, Uranerz, UR-Energy and Uranium One. I'm trying to get meetings with a few of those.
