It invariably relates to the ability of management to accept change (and therefore new ideas from their staff) so it’s probably pointless for any one of the shareholders going up there for a visit. Although for a sightseeing tour it would be great to see I’m sure!
Based on our experience, it depends on what end of the alpha-male spectrum the upper management and Board are as a collective and as individuals. Too aggressive, too pig-headed and too untrusting will generally lead to a lack of communication within the upper management of a company and stymie any free thought required to get a company out of trouble. The tough guy approach does, however, have merit if all is going well and they have the complete complement of skills to direct people (probably very difficult in the Philippines). This is, however, getting to be an ‘old school’ management style and is less suited to modern results-driven management.
