Considering security is already on the ground at Lulo as part of the deal with Endiama, (several armed guards present already), increasing the number of them would probably indicate the amount and size of the stones are large enough or of a sufficient quantity or perhaps both to interest the jackals.
In hindsight they should have been in place earlier.
Certainly wouldn't be of interest if there was nothing to guard.
