40% - F that. It would need to be more like a 75% cut at the minimum. Cut his salary down to 5 figures. He can earn it back from there on in with results as his barometer for increases in pay. I'd say somewhere between $50-$70k p.a. would be "fair" (even then it's still too much for MD, he deserves $0 imo). Prefer he leaves personally.
