Brine to carbonate is cheaper than spodumene to hydroxide
however - if you want you end product to be hydroxide from brine it will cost you more... the author seems to not know this?

His point is that China is cheaper - well they are but the US will not be buying from China, someone just did not get the memo yet. Maybe the author should read some of the proposals that are being put forth to the US congress. One which give companies a double tax break to buy from North American sources and another that forbids the US government including the military to buy from China. Corona Virus has changed forever how the US will look at its supply chain.
