My 22 year experience working on Wall St, living in NY, (but working in IT for the major institutions, am not a banker), following - and trading / investing in markets, seeing the experts on TV, is that you make one good call, you're a hero, forever ("he called the tech crash of 2000-2002", etc.). All the bad calls are immediately forgotten.
As for the rest of your statement, yes, you'll get a lot of pleasure from reading @V* signature...it's similar to what you are saying (assuming he's not changed it).
