I've been thinking about how the technology will be implemented in the self-acquisition market, and have some queries/thoughts.

If there are any tech/photography/optics/programming experts who can comment that'd be great.

My (laymans) understanding is: in capturing light reflections, the direction of the incoming light, and the resulting angle of reflection of the returning light, will drastically alter the received information. Eg, if you move the camera/flash a few millimeters in any direction, you'll receive widely divergent information back to the sensor. An analogy: minuscule changes in the angle of a pool cue result in significant changes in the angle of the rebound of a pool ball from the edge of the table.

As they've said, they've not implemented the tech into a mobile device yet, but they know what they'd need to do to make it work. So, no testing or programming of self-acquisition yet? Perhaps this is an area they're looking to develop once static (military, border control, general security) use has been established and is generating revenue.

Not knowing much about the field, my initial thought is that programming the tech so that it can recognise where in relation the camera/flash is to the eye, so that it can compensate/recalculate the reading to adjust for differences in angle of the reading vs angle of enrollment will be difficult. It's a question/topic it'd be interesting to hear Shanny talk about.

Has anyone else been thinking about this as well?

Not meaning this to sound like a bash, I'm just really interested, and like this technology and want to know more.
