It is common to have self service checkouts at big stores these days and you are encouraged by the stores to use them and the stores reduce their staff on the store checkout to further encourage shoppers to use them
But what most people do not know is that when you use the normal checkout staff you usually get compensated, rewarded if the check out operator makes a mistake
What you are not told is that if you make a mistake on the self service set or the system malfunctions the store assumes you have deliberately stolen the goods and can charge you with theft
A women in the USA has received a 2.1 million payout against Wallmart who did wrongfully have her arrested and charged (Dec 2021)
So be very careful if you do the stores for them work and are not protected

An Alabama woman who sued Walmart, contending that she was falsely arrested on a shoplifting charge and that the ordeal had damaged her reputation, was awarded $2.1 million in punitive damages by a jury this week.
