This link provides a good geological background to Maximus's Selheim gold project south of Charters Towers.
It talks about one gold mine to the north east and three gold mines immediately south of Selheim. (page 12)
1. Pajingo (3 million ounces of gold)
2. Wirralie ( the closest and 1.1m oz)
3. Yandan ( discovered by Western Mining Corp)
4. Mount Coolon
Page 30 shows the other gold mines.
Pajingo was a Newmont mine and the largest gold mine in Qld but is now a jv between Heemskirk and Qld Mines (?)
Interestingly, the Wirralie gold deposit was discovered by Geologists from ACM in 1986 during follow-up of
anomalous stream sediment sampling results. Open cut mining commenced in November 1987 and gold production began in May 1988.
MXR's Selheim deposit is alluvial gold being right on the edges of the Selheim River and MXR's new CEO (Booth) is reviewing the project which from memory, company reports refer to hard rock gold investigations. MXR's alluvial operations might evolve into an open cut gold mine or under ground mine if investigations reveal similar geological characteristics to the other gold mines in the district. We know there is gold at Selheim, but with alluvial deposits, a jorc resource is hard to establish because of the nature of the alluvial sediments. Hard rock is much more definitive.
