Another con for Qantas.
They have invested heavily in these new fuel efficient planes, but their first utilisation of them (PER-LHR) as a ultra long distance flight is the least efficient way that they can be used. Those thousands of kilograms of fuel used towards the end of the flight has had to be carried 14,000km.
I'm also not sure the public in economy (or even business) is willing to pay a premium (and deal with 17 hours in flight) in order to avoid the hassle of transiting in HKG or Changi.
