Somaliland wont let Range in---------

In October 2005, Puntland entered into a contract with the small Australian company Range Resources Ltd. The agreement sold 50.1 percent of the sole and exclusive rights to all mineral, oil exploration and development in Puntland. However, the deal includes the Sool and Sanaag areas, and Somaliland maintains that Puntland authorities do not possess the jurisdiction or the dispensation to carry out any exploration on their territory.

This disagreement, coupled with the border dispute and unsuccessful attempts at diplomacy, are likely to continue fueling warfare between the two regions over the next 12-18 months.
