The reality in Austrlia is that the majority of people buy & hold due to compulsory Super. Those everyday people particularly if they are approaching retirement age are suffering. This group do not get the luxury of stock picking! Thus my personal issue with Shorting and the volitilty that is created. Shorting results in a transfer of wealth from those that need it most to a privileged few. Unfortunately, my guess is that these 'privileged few'are in the majority overseas hedgefunds. Thus net wealth is being transferred out of the country.
I dont think it is fair to use Opes as a validation for the context of your posts as the majority of 'long termers' sympathise with those affected. My personal wish is that anger is directed towards the real culprits who are the Opes directors.
