I bought ANZ at 29 and sold at 25 citadel makes good points, but fails to dissect the deeper issues. To me ANZ is not in the same position as that of the US banks that have recently folded.
Australian economy is strong unlike the US economy no fiscal deficit, strong balance of payments, strong dollar so reducing the effects of oil costs,housing not over priced (apart from few isolated areas)
Mind you I am a resource stock trader so what I have to say about this is probably less informed than most reading or posting here who are more familiar with banking stocks
