selling for capitol loss then rebuying

    Tax question. If I've sold a stock at a loss, then re-buy the same stock 1 week later at a lower price, will that stop me from claiming that initial tax loss? What's to stop people from selling shares at a loss then re-buying them in the same day? Is that acceptable to claim a loss?
