    competition effected the profit, with Caltex they like to blame it on everything else but I'm pretty sure it has to do with 7-11 selling $1 slushies and coffees more than sluggish consumer spending.

    if people spend less at Caltex on overpriced chocolate bars they'll spend it at woolies. if people stop spending there money they will leave it in the banks! and the banks will lend it out to some other sucker who is having a win and doesn't mind spending it, intact they'll lend him 10 times that amount

    also the post about construction and housing slowing over east is a standard cycle, after a boom in building you end up with an oversupply and then a retrace, the west Australia propert market did what the over east market is doing now 10 years ago, it's not pretty but guess what the world kept spinning.

    renovations shoot up, people make do, australia survives and the bank always wins
