it is a total of $5000 franking credit, ie the total amount of franking credit an individual has acquired in a financial year.
Therefore, of one earns franking credit from say CBA, NAB, TLS and BHP and the total credit exceeds $5000 then the 45 day rule will apply to each stock.
This is my understanding.
