I've been reading up about trade secrets v's patents.
MHM are definately better off keeping their ALNAK technology as a trade secret, as per KFC, Coke, etc.
If a patent for the technology was put in place, the specific details of their process would be disclosed. Other companies would be able to obtain the details, and althogh not be able to exactly copy the process, they would be able to develop their own similar process that was different enough to not breach the patent. Or they may even improve on the ALNAK process.
It would be like a chicken shop tinkering with KFCs 11 herbs and spices, and just changing quantities, etc.
I'm sure this has already been discussed recently on HC.
