During Australia's bushfire crisis, Prime Minister Morrison had a terrific holiday in Hawaii. He was criticised for that.
We were wrong. We needed him in Hawaii so we could sort out the mess he had gotten us into.
Morrison had wound back funding for federal firefighting efforts, ignored catastrophic warnings, scored political points off state premiers and worse. He had totally reshuffled government departments just before Christmas holidays, so ministers didn't know what they in charge of, and staff didn't know who to report to. Even now, Peter Dutton seems unaware that he was supposed to have been in charge of the federal bushfire response.
Our PM has got himself into a similar mess now. Each crisis he decisively makes worse each day. We need a break from him making decisions.
I propose we speed up the vaccine rollout and get control of the different governmental disasters and scandals by sending Scomo to Hawaii for an extended holiday. Preferably with the Health Minister, Greg Hunt.
Six months should do it. We'd have things sorted by then.
